Early Influences

I was born in London in 1973, and my earliest memories of art come from quiet days spent painting watercolour scenes along the Thames. Those early experiments with light, water, and atmosphere stayed with me, shaping the way I see landscapes even now. Art has always been a constant thread in my life, even during the years when I explored different creative paths.

Fantasy & Imagination

Alongside traditional landscape painting, I’ve always been drawn to fantasy art and the imaginative worlds found in comic books. Artists from publications like 2000AD had a huge influence on me, their dramatic lighting, bold compositions, and atmospheric storytelling shaped the way I think about mood and world‑building. That blend of realism and imagination still runs through my work today, whether I’m painting real woodland scenes or creating something more dreamlike.

Two Decades of Aquascaping

Before returning fully to painting, I spent around twenty years immersed in aquascaping, designing natural underwater landscapes. Working at that level of precision for so long didn’t just teach me about composition and flow; it also enhanced my natural tendencies for attention to detail. Aquascaping demanded patience, careful observation, and an understanding of how organic forms interact with light and space. Those qualities carried directly into my painting practice and continue to shape the way I build depth and atmosphere in my work.

East Sussex & Woodland Focus

Everything shifted when I moved to East Sussex. The quiet, off‑the‑beaten‑track walks around my local area and the wider Ashdown Forest reignited my passion for painting. These places have a calm, immersive quality, shifting light through dense trees, pockets of silence, and paths that feel untouched. They became the foundation of my work. I paint them because they feel like home, and because they offer endless inspiration.

Today

Today, my art blends realism with a touch of fantasy, shaped by the landscapes I explore and the imagined worlds I’ve always loved. Whether I’m painting a woodland path or a more atmospheric, otherworldly scene, my goal is the same: to create spaces that feel immersive, calm, and emotionally connected to nature.

My journey has taken me through different creative disciplines, but they all lead back to the same place, a deep appreciation for the natural world and a desire to share that connection through my paintings.
